Kefalonia Fisheries with great enthusiasm supported the excellent action of the environmental organization Healthy Seas. In just over a week, a team of 45, most of which volunteers including 20 divers, with the contribution and support of local society, undertook an unprecedented cleanup removing 76 tons of debris from the sea, coastline, and 4 beaches on the Southwest of Ithaca, restoring the pristine beauty of the island. It took 6 months of preparation to organize the action and bring together partners. Thanks to everyone's support, the project was a complete success.
“Locals were waiting for many years for someone to do something about this environmental catastrophe. We decided to take on an immense challenge, use our resources and expertise in order to help them” says Mikos. “There is now a shocking difference when you look at the bay and you can’t help but be emotionally affected by it. This, together with the warm greetings we received from the locals, is our great reward.”
From the beginning, we warmly accepted the invitation of Healthy Seas and supported the whole effort, offering human resources and the appropriate equipment (trailer and floating crane).
Through this action, it turns out that if we all join forces, we can protect the environment. We would like to congratulate this initiative and stress that our company will consistently and responsibly continue to support similar collective actions aimed at the sustainability of the aquatic environment.
The support of Hyundai Motor Europe, Ghost Diving Foundation, Enaleia, Odyssey Outdoor Activities, Aquatic Dive Center and the Municipality of Ithaca and the Ionian Islands region was decisive. The whole action took place under the auspices of the Ministry of Marine and Island Policy.
